Snoring Surgery

Snoring Surgery

Snoring surgery, also known as palatal surgery, encompasses several procedures aimed at reducing or eliminating snoring. It's typically considered when other, less invasive methods like lifestyle changes and breathing devices haven't been effective.

Types of Snoring Surgery:

  • Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP): Most common. Removes excess tissue from the soft palate, uvula, and sometimes tonsils.
  • Radiofrequency ablation (RFA): Heats and shrinks tissue in the soft palate and uvula. Less invasive than UPPP but may have lower success rates.
  • Palatal implants: Tiny implants inserted into the soft palate stiffen it to reduce vibration during sleep. Relatively new procedure with evolving data.
  • Tonsillectomy: Only recommended if enlarged tonsils contribute significantly to snoring.

Who is it for?

  • Adults with habitual snoring that disrupts their own sleep or their partner's.
  • Snoring accompanied by sleep apnea (brief pauses in breathing) or other health problems.
  • Individuals who haven't had success with non-surgical interventions.
